“Completely cut sugars and starches out of your diet. It’s easier to say no to that second piece of bread or French fry if you didn’t have the first one. You’ll also have fewer food cravings.
· Shore up on fiber—it promotes satiety so you’ll eat less. I recommend a quarter cup of freshly ground flaxseed daily, stirred into water or a smoothie or sprinkled on salads or soups.
· Have smaller, more frequent meals. Instead of gorging on three massive meals per day, eat five or six mini-meals.
· Make sure all your meals and snacks include protein. Aim for 3-4 ounces of chicken, turkey, tofu, or other lean protein. Even though you’ll eat more often, you’ll take in fewer calories.
· Drink plenty of water. Thirst and hunger are similar sensations, so drink up the next time hunger strikes—you may just be thirsty. Drinking water also fills you up and, believe it or not, burns calories.
· Eat an apple 15 minutes before lunch. Researchers have found that this cuts caloric intake by nearly 200 calories.
· Use smaller plates to keep portions under control. We tend to fill up our plates, regardless of size, and then eat everything we’ve piled on.
· Split an entrĂ©e when dining out, or get a doggie bag for half of your meal before you start eating.
· Avoid temptation by asking your waiter to skip the bread basket, chips, or other starchy ‘starters’ at your table.
· Keep xylitol-sweetened mints or gum on hand. They satisfy the need for something sweet and keep your mouth busy until your next meal.
· Enjoy one small piece of rich, dark chocolate when you feel you just have to have a treat.
· Record everything you eat in a food journal. This forces you to be honest with yourself and lets you see where improvements must be made.
· Look into a meal-delivery service if you don’t have the time or know-how to prepare good-for-fare.”
While everyone strives to have good health, not many really understand what it is. When we believe, to a large extent, we are eating healthy, living healthy, thinking healthy, we really are not. Here are some tips to better your health...

Can You Avoid Diabetes?
For years, advocates of natural health have been hammering away at the message that soda causes diabetes and obesity. The soda industry, meanwhile, has remained in denial mode, mirroring the ridiculous position of the tobacco industry that "nicotine is not addictive." Soda doesn't cause diabetes, the industry claims, and it's perfectly safe to consume in essentially unlimited quantities.
The Corn Refiners Association has joined the denial with its own spin campaign that seeks to convince people High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is totally natural and completely harmless. HFCS is, of course, the primary sweetener used in sodas and soft drinks.
Now comes new research presented at the American Heart Association's Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention annual conference in San Francisco. This new research reveals that over the last decade, soda consumption has conservatively caused:
• 130,000 new cases of diabetes
• 14,000 new cases of heart disease
• 50,000 more "life years" with heart disease over the last decade
"The finding suggests that any kind of policy that reduces consumption might have a dramatic health benefit," said senior study author Dr. Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo (associate professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco).
The American Beverage Association, meanwhile, says this study hasn't been published in a peer-reviewed medical journal yet and therefore it doesn't count. Soda consumption doesn't cause diabetes or heart disease, they claim, because "...both heart disease and diabetes are complex conditions with no single cause and no single solution."
It's silly logic, of course: Diabetes obviously has a cause. It's not some spontaneous disease that appears out of nowhere. And when you go looking for the cause, you obviously have to look at dietary factors since diabetes is a disease related to the consumption and metabolism of dietary sugars. Once you do that, sodas immediately raise a red flag because they're liquid sugar in a highly-concentrated form that does not exist naturally in nature.
HFCS doesn't grow on trees, in other words. Nature provides sugars locked into insoluble fibers that slow digestion and lower the effective glycemic index of sugars that are consumed. In nature, sugars are always combined with minerals, too, and many of those minerals help prevent diabetes and heart disease. But High-Fructose Corn Syrup is stripped of virtually all those minerals. It contains no fiber and no healing phytonutrients that you might encounter in plants. As a result, HFCS -- sometimes dubbed "liquid Satan" -- might be called a dietary poison that causes disease while contributing to nutritional deficiencies that accelerate disease.

The Damaging Effects Of Sugar
Sugar and high blood glucose is detrimental to health. Excess sugar shortens a persons lifespan and opens the door for sickness.
The Medical Director of the Pioneer Comprehensive Medical Clinic in Draper, Utah, Dr Rodier, explains that the health crisis and the rise of disease in the U.S. are not the result of doctors -- the truth extends beyond them. "What's really going on," he says, "is that we are eating too poorly. We get people off medications by changing their diets."
Dr Brolier explains that people are addicted to sugar. His most memorable statement followed a quote from the dental industry -- peope who drink soda pop should do so with a straw so the soda would not damage their teeth. He says "Maybe people should get a longer straw that will go all the way through and come out the other end." "If soda damages the enameled bone tissue of the teeth, imagine what it will do to the soft tissue of the digestive mucosa." ---- A point well taken.
Dr David Hill, Director of the Young Life Research Clinic says: "Sugar is death." He says only 20% of your health is determined by your genes, the remaining 80% is determined by lifestyle choices. Dr Hill says "You can remove genetic dispositions by changing your lifestyle. 100% of our health can be controlled by lifestyle when we are willing to make the necessary changes."
Sugar when consumed is very acidic and rushes into the bloodstream causing an excess of insulin to be released. When this happens the body produces more insulin. Over time, the body becomes insulin resistant, causing a multitude of illness, with type ll diabetes being the obvious result. Because sugar is so acidic it fosters disease. Do you really want your kids drinking soda every day?

Artificial Sweeteners
Many people, at least those who have some knowledge about health, try to learn a little and keep some of the known dangers out of their foods. Sadly though, the food companies are in this to make money; not to make people healthy. As a rule.
There are always exceptions, but all are still in this to make money. I have no problem with making a profit. Just don't do it at someone else's expense.
In a past blog I wrote that MSG, NutraSweet and other chemicals are generally hidden with other labeling on the package, such as the term "Natural Flavoring", "Parabens", "Phenylalanine", and more. Here is a good story on NutraSweet. Well worth reading.
Did you know?
Propylene Glycol, which is in a large amount of food and drug products, is a known carcinogen, and can kill in small doses? Yet...the FDA doesn't tell you. It is stated on the FDA website though.
The term "Derived From Natural Sources" actually means this is a chemical. ~ Journal of biochemical and biophysical methods ISSN 0165-022X
Corn Syrup is very harmful to your health. This is just one of thousands of articles written which show this. Splenda is equally as dangerous, if not more so. It is 75% chlorine. Chlorine KILLS. Please read this story, by Dr Janet Starr Hull
Using natural products such as Xylitol or Stevia as sweeteners is far better than using Corn Syrup, NutraSweet, MSG, or Sugar. Xylitol and Stevia will both help the body rather than hurt it. The others listed here will only hurt the body, and never help it. Sugar, as has been stated in the last couple of months by me, is the prime fuel for all cancers. Particularly, refined sugars.
You would have to learn to use Stevia. It is a very natural plant, but is extremely sweet. Meaning, if you use much more than necessary, your food won't taste all that good. It is, depending on refinement, up to 200 times sweeter than sugar.
Xylitol, like Stevia, is neither harmful to the health, nor do either cause candida overgrowth, which the other 5 listed ingredients will. Nor does either of those feed the harmful bacteria in the mouth.
