Frostbite can affect most anyone. It is a painful, potentially devastating condition which most people that find themselves with it, did not anticipate frostbite ever happening to them. So what to do if you find you have frostbite?
First of all, this is one time I would suggest going to a medical doctor for advice. What I would do, because I know through research, direct application, and intuition; that I would use specific therapeutic quality essential oils. Why oils? Because they have healing capacities that go far beyond almost everything else, and always far beyond what drugs can do. Using warm water is a great place to start. Never use hot water for frostbite!!
Here are a few essential oils I would use:
** Cypress oil. This oil is known to help circulation. It has been used for centuries for a variety of uses.
** Cinnamon oil(bark is preferred). This oil also helps circulation. However, this is a hot oil to the skin, and dilution should be utilized. Dilute with an oil like Olive, Sesame, or Sunflower. Cinnamon oil will also aid in warming the skin and surrounding tissues.
** Clove oil. This oil is the most powerful anti-oxidant known. It acts as a hemostat, meaning it balances the blood. It also acts as a numbing agent, to help subdue some of the pain associated with frostbite. A carrier oil should be used with this for frostbite.
** Juniper oil. This oil is known to help regenerate nerves. Because frostbite affects adversely, the nerves in the body, this can be very beneficial.
** Geranium oil. This is very similar in function to Juniper for the nerves. A bit stronger of a smell, the deeper and longer lasting smell is known as a "base" scent.
** Lemon oil. This oil is very helpful in increasing micro-circulation, and would be a wise choice in treating frostbite conditions. However, as will all aromatherapies, when treating a condition such as frostbite, it is wise to use a carrier oil.
A carrier oil has multiple benefits. For one, it softens the heat from the warmer oils, such as Clove, Cinnamon and Oregano. It also helps to slow the evaporative rate when aromatherapy is applied topically. A carrier allows you to use less of an essential oil and spread the oil over a wider area. The benefit from using aromatherapy is still there.
