While there is no guarantee this will save a life, it has saved hundreds, if not thousands of lives so far. As we all know, medical help can sometimes be a long ways away. I was lucky enough to have an EMT on hand when I had an accident and tore myself up.
When I arrived in the emergency room of the hospital, I was told there was no one qualified to work on me, due to the extent of the injury. 26 hours later, a plastic surgeon began putting me back together.
Had it not been for that EMT, I may not have survived. I had lost a fair amount of blood, was in almost immediate shock, and even though I know first aid and CPR, I was almost powerless to do anything for myself.
We are not all this lucky, to have someone nearby that can give us the help we need, when we need it. So if you do not have the knowledge of how to perform CPR or first aid, my advice is to get the knowledge. You may end up saving someone's life.
Bear in mind, many times, especially with males, they refuse to acknowledge they are actually having a heart attack. If you are relatively sure this is an actual heart attack, or stroke, ignore them when they tell you they are ok, and get medical attention immediately; regardless of what you have managed so far to get done for them.
Saving lives is worth it. I know this from experience. No amount of money can compare to the feeling you receive from helping someone in need.
